Bareboat Provisioning and Food Preparation

Can we bring food with us?

Can we shop for supplies when we arrive?

Can we shop for supplies when we arrive?

It always comes as a surprise to our visitors that most grocery items purchased here are significantly more expensive than what they are used to paying in the states.   Because almost everything available here arrives by either air or sea, the cost is more and the selections are fewer.

In the past we have had guests bring a cooler with meats, cheeses, pre-grilled meals, spices, condiments etc. as those items are more expensive on island.

Additionally, if there are specialty items that you need/want, you may want to consider bringing them with you.   Feel free to reach out to us with any questions about which of your favorite items may/may not be regularly available on island.

We've had a number of folks tell us they saved a dime or two by purchasing a used cooler that they planned to leave on island in order to save the return baggage fees.

Please feel free to reach out to us to get an idea of the current cost of items you may want to purchase on island.

The good news for rum drinkers is that the rum is usually cheaper here!  ;-)

There are several options on St. Thomas to provision.  You can choose to shop for yourself or to order online and have it delivered to the boat.

Also, there will be places to resupply some basic items throughout the week if you run out of something or have forgotten a key ingredient.

Pueblo is a regular grocery store and has one location near the airport and another on the way out to the East End.

Plaza Extra grocery store has a location at the Tutu mall.

CostULess is a 'big box-ish' store that carries a little bit of everything and offers online shopping for later pickup.  (Be sure to select the St. Thomas store)

PriceSmart is a big box, membership store that has a new online ordering feature in beta.  Depending on how large a group you have, it's easy to justify the $25 membership fee.

Moe's Fresh Market has a location in Charlotte Amalie and also on the East End in Red Hook.

Food Center is also available on the East End near the boat.

Can we have someone else shop and deliver for us?

What other items will we need to consider when provisioning?

What other items will we need to consider when provisioning?

Absolutely!   There are a number of provisioning services on the island that are happy to help.  Some can even provide pre-packaged meals that you only have to heat and eat!

Fine Food Afloat/Anna's Market has online ordering, will do the work for you and deliver to the boat.  They offer meal packages as well as individual items.

Time Saver VI offers shopping and delivery services, also.

Moe's Fresh Market in Red Hook, as well as being a retail storefront, also does provisioning and delivery.

Stocked VI also offers provisioning and/or ready to prepare meal packages.

Should you choose to order ahead and have your provisions delivered to the boat, reach out and let us know if you would like us to receive your order and stow your items prior to your arrival.
